An Easy Nighttime Skincare Routine To Follow

Did you know that your nighttime skincare routine is often more important than what you do when the sun shines? Our skin works extra hard to rejuvenate and absorb the ingredients as we sleep, and this is why our nighttime skincare routine deserves to be different and so much more elevated!

During the day, our skin gets exposed to UV rays, dirt, and pollutants, so it’s customary that your daytime products focus on protection. However, when the sun goes down, you need to switch it up — add the right ingredients, get enough hydration and even slather on some overnight care!

Today, we’ve created the perfect nighttime skincare guide for better, protected skin before head off to catch quality zzzz.  As the day slows to an end, keep these skincare steps in mind for an elevated self-care routine.

Step 1: Double cleanse, the first step for a nighttime skincare routine

Sleeping without washing your face is a skincare crime. Before you hit the sack, make sure to wash off all the accumulated grime, dirt, and makeup. Experts and dermatologists recommend doing a double cleanse at night: start with a cleansing oil, then follow it up with a water-based cleanser. This way, you can ensure that you remove all the dirt and provide a clean canvas for all the products you will use later.

Step 2: Toner

Toners penetrate the skin deeper than your cleansers, making them an essential step in your skincare, and even more so for your nighttime skincare routine. Also, they help maintain the pH balance of your skin and the moisture levels, to keep unwanted oil at bay. Since toners have light, water-like formulas, you should use them after cleansing your face. Nothing to change in here; apply it like you would in the morning.

Step 3: Treatment is essential for any nighttime skincare routine

The next step is where you tailor the products depending on what your skin needs. Consult your dermatologist first if you are unsure which active ingredients you can mix and match. Apply your serums, essence, or prescription products (if any). For added hydration, use hyaluronic acid. For deep exfoliation, glycolic acid is the way to go. If you want to brighten your skin, use vitamin C or niacinamide. You can also go for at-home peels during this step, but make sure not to overdo any treatment, or you’ll risk irritating your skin.

Step 4: Eye Cream

Some people argue that spending money on eye creams is a scam, but trust us when we say they are worth it. Now, say it with us: “a nighttime skincare routine is never complete without the best eye cream.” The skin around your eyes is ten times thinner than on your face, making it more prone to lines, wrinkles, and of course, dark circles. Eye creams give your skin a targeted treatment that helps rejuvenate the eye area and prevent visible signs of ageing. And take note: they go before your moisturizers because they are lighter and thinner.

Step 5: Moisturizer, the tip of a perfect nighttime skincare routine!

Last but definitely not least: moisturize! Good moisturizers create a unique barrier for your skin that seals in all the active ingredients you applied earlier. You can use the same one in your morning routine or switch it up with a thicker formula for your nighttime skincare routine. Don’t worry; it will pay off in the morning. You will wake up with smooth and plump skin, ready to start the day!
