Must Haves in a Makeup Bag

Shopping for makeup products and brands can be somewhat intimidating. With so many options available to you it can be really difficult to know where to begin. But more importantly, which ones are suitable for you.

But don’t worry! At Cosmetics Now, we love chatting about all things beauty products and so we put together this blog to help you pick the must-haves for your makeup bag.

Primer & Moisturiser

Although primers and moisturisers aren’t necessarily considered makeup products, almost all professional makeup artists recommend having these in any makeup kit.

If it’s good enough for them, then it’s good enough for us. Our advice is before you start applying your makeup, you should start off by applying your preferred primer and moisturiser.

This will ensure that you have an absolutely flawless skin base before you start applying the rest of your makeup.

Always apply your moisturiser first, and then your primer, to ensure your primer application is even. If you happen to have oily skin, we’d recommend using a matte moisturiser as oily skin and makeup tend not to work together.

If there’s one versatile product that every woman should own, it would have to be concealer.

There are some women that believe that concealer isn’t necessary if you have a high-end foundation product that is doing a perfect job, but really concealer is the secret weapon that will do wonders for your skin.

It will help you look really fresh even if you haven’t had much sleep during the night before.

Red Lipstick

Universally loved, red lipstick is a cult classic that will look fresh in every season and can update your look very quickly.

Possibly the best part about using red lipstick is that the shade looks great with every contemporary and traditional look whilst also complimenting every skin tone. If you have fuller lips, then this is an absolute must-have.

Nude Lipstick

Looking for a lipstick that can be worn at any time of the day? Look no further than nude lipsticks.

They’re especially effective when you’re wanting a minimal look or bringing attention to your eye makeup.

They do come in a number of gorgeous hues so be sure to experiment with a shade that best suits your skin tone to ensure maximum effect.

Our tip – use a nude lipstick that is one shade lighter or darker than your skin tone.

Eyebrow Pomade and Spoolie Brush

If you want your eyebrows to look their best, we would recommend keeping some great brow products in your makeup bag.

A spoolie brush will help you brush individual brow hairs and make your eyebrows look fluffier. It will also help keep your eyebrows in place. A pomade is designed to fill in those sparse brow areas and make them fuller overall.

If you’re after that winged eye look, then you absolutely need to have a high-quality eye-liner. They’re also needed if you want a smokey eye effect.

We’d probably recommend using an eyeliner pencil rather than a brush for maximum effect and also so you can apply it when you’re out and about.

However, the old saying “practice makes perfect” applies to using eyeliner and it’s something that you will naturally get better at the more you use it.

Eyelash Curler

If you wish to make your eyelashes look thicker and longer, get yourself an eyelash curler. Stat.

We reckon that once you start using one, you might become a little obsessed with it. Given how it can make your eyelashes look, we wouldn’t blame you!

The key to using it is:

  • Curl your eyelashes before you use mascara
  • Curl your eyelashes at the base, middle, and top for a natural look
  • Only curl your upper lashes

This is the absolute essential makeup product for your makeup bag – mascara. You need this with you at. all. times.

It will make your eyelashes look incredible by being able to darken, lengthen, volumise, and curl your lashes.

And there you have it! With everything from a fantastic foundation product to high-end mascara such as NARS Foundation and everything in between, these are the products we would strongly recommend you have in your makeup bag wherever you are.
